In the animal world, the relationship between moms and babies is strong and one of the strongest is the relationship between momma Orangutans and their babies. They spend a lot of time taking care of their babies than other mammals and they handle them all alone. And when it comes to father Orangutans they aren’t involved in the process of raising babies. Meet a baby Orangutan girl who lost the love of her mommy and then is being taken care of by her father.
Cerah is a 2-year-old baby Orangutan girl in the Denver Zoo and sadly her mommy passed away last year. And now she is being taken care of by her daddy Berani, even for the staff at the zoo, it is a surprise as male orangutans usually do not take care of their babies. Surprisingly Berani is being the best dad Cerah could have. On Facebook, the zookeepers had shared that he is being the best he could and is very protective and attentive of his baby girl. This bond of then is very rare and heart-touching.

#2 The news was shared on Facebook by the Denver Zoo

The Bored Panda had got in touch with the Public Relations Coordinator of the Zoo, Carlie McGuire, and she had said that usually, the male orangutans are not at all involved in raising the babies. And about Berani had said that he had always been an exception as a male. And that even earlier before Cerah’s mother Nias’s death he had taken care of Hesty, Nias’s daughter as his own. Though Hesty is Nias’s daughter, Berani is not her dad. And had said that therefore it’s no surprise that he takes care of his daughter.

And for the question, if a male orangutan could replace a mother orangutan, Carlie had said that it is not at all possible. Had said that Cerah’s mother had been a true leader of the family and that though Berani is trying to give Cerah motherly love he cannot replace her. And had said that as Cerah is almost out of nursing there would be a need of bringing a surrogate mother to her.

Nias who is a Sumatran orangutan had been 32 when she died on 17th December at the Denver Zoo in Colorado. The reason for her death is not sure to staff and they are waiting for the necropsy results to come from the Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical services Collage of the Colorado State University.
Nias had come to Denver zoo in 2005 and she had been 17 years old. And had spent 15 years in this zoo being an ambassador for her species. The Sumatran species is almost endangered and about 14,000 of them are left in the wild.
