Kipenzi, who has now been moved to Jacksonville as per the recommendation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan for white rhinos is a Southern White Rhino born at Zoo Tampa, 2016. Her name has the meaning ‘loved one” in the Swahili language.

When her age is 6 or 7 years she’ll be capable to breed. These animals were almost extinct until they recovered in the latter part of the 19th century. As per the zoo, they are the most existing out of the 5 rhino types.

The Jacksonville zoo had helped the population of rhinos to grow from 100 to 18000. They are native to Sub-Saharan, Africa and their home environment has short and long savanna areas in the grassland.
They have been enlisted as ‘ near threatened’ by the IUNC. Also, the poaching for horns is in effect in all species. The zoo plays a vital role in the Wildlife protection unit by protecting the White Rhinos, also it gives support to the International Rhino Foundation.

And also the zoo raises funds for the Rhino Fundraiser by hosting Bowling. They have raised $8 million since 1990 for Rhino Conservation.

Now she lives with Gabriella and Archie who are 26 and 51 respectively and the world’s 3rd oldest rhino is Archie.
It is important to protect these almost extinct animals.
